Jiang Mingyi: Lingering Echoes
Does contemporary Chinese art's more than 40-year history contain moments that were once missed? Were there instances of lost time, missed opportunities, or overlooked spaces and actions?
In contemporary Chinese art, are there events and figures that have never been narrated? Are there events and figures that require reaffirmation and narration?
Does contemporary Chinese art hold concepts and experiences that need reaffirmation and action?
Based on limited experiences in contemporary art history and media messages, judging from the sensations and temperament of the works, Jiang Mingyi can be considered an artist from the 1985 New Wave era in China. He has lived in seclusion for many years, delving deeply into personal exploration and experiments that are almost unknown to the public. Combining classical Chinese music theory with modern music composition methods, he has creatively explored musical notes, scores, instruments, and music theory for many years. He aims to carry out a series of localized transformations on Western traditional notation methods. His work forms a self-contained system with a distinctive visual style and medium-specific features.
Renewing the sense of artistic events, questioning experiences, shuttling back and forth between sensation and experience, and gathering and converging like flowing streams.
Jiang Mingyi's art is entwined in the echoes that persist amidst the beams and pillars of the era.

关于艺术家About the artist
姜明易,1958年,生于吉林省东丰县。1977年考入吉林艺术学院音乐系作曲专业。1983年开始发起《乐之暗面》计划,该计划旨在对西方传统的记谱法进行一系列本土化的改造。他通过对中国古典音乐理论和现代音乐作曲方法的结合,来完成对音符、乐谱、乐器、乐理等领域的创造性工作。2004年至2022年,在吉林省东丰县从事美术教育工作,并且以教师的身份和板书的形式介入音乐方面的创作。2022年至今,工作和生活在江苏昆山。
Jiang Mingyi was Born in 1958 in Dongfeng County, Jilin Province. In 1977, he was admitted to the Composition Department of the Jilin Academy of Arts and Started the Dark Side of Music project in 1983. This project aims to carry out a series of localized transformations on Western traditional notation methods. He combines classical Chinese music theory with modern music composition methods to creatively work on musical notes, scores, instruments, and music theory. From 2004 to 2022, he engaged in art education in Dongfeng County, Jilin Province, and was involved in music creation in the capacity of a teacher through classroom instruction. Since 2022, he has worked and lived in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province.
