从封面出发

为纪念杂志创刊45周年，《画刊》在2019年推出了年度艺术项目“《画刊》45周年封面计划”，力图以每年一次项目的方式携手艺术家，以媒体生产的形式联动艺术创作，对中国当代艺术现场提出某种问题，并形成整体性的艺术出版与传播序列。去年项目策划伊始，我就将“《画刊》封面计划”定性为一次复合型、系统性的媒体实验：每年设定一个命题，以12期为一个项目周期，每期杂志邀约1位艺术家参与封面计划。这个年度项目的基本规则是：艺术家必须针对当年的命题做新的作品；封面之外，杂志每期还刊载创作手记与艺术家访谈。这些内容构成了“《画刊》封面计划”的基本面，也成为杂志媒体生产进一步深化与扩展的前提。2019年的“《画刊》45周年封面计划”，吴俊勇、何工、陈丹笛子、柯明、龚新如、张权、谢晓泽、姚朋、李勇政、秦晋、黄小鹏、苍鑫12位艺术家，以“媒体”（media）为命题创作了封面作品。他们依循杂志制定的游戏规则，带着“镣铐”跳舞，在限定中完成了充满想象力与艺术敏感的12期封面创作。经过一年的准备，2020年末在南京艺术学院美术馆举办的这场“《画刊》45周年封面计划”展览，将12位艺术家媒介表达与思考路径的丰富性链接到展厅，更清楚地显现这个项目的视觉逻辑。不久之后，本次封面计划纸刊与展览的内容，也会被重新编辑与梳理，以图书的形态出版。那时，由纸刊内容生产、物理空间的艺术展览、主题文献出版共同建构的项目才真正达成。“《画刊》封面计划”的项目进展与《画刊》杂志的内容生产进程是有“时差”的。我们必须做完2019年的杂志，才能在2020年推进封面计划的展览与图书出版。这种滞后又让前一年和新一年的封面计划之间产生交叠，让项目处在一种新与旧的共时性之中。我们希望持续地将这种“交叠”的工作状态保持下去，通过一次次从封面出发的行动，塑造一种艺术创造与媒介生产的新关系，在一个长久的时段中积累、形塑一种价值，并接受时间的考验和历史的检验。

Starting from the Cover Page

In order to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the magazine’s founding, the Art Monthly launched the annual art project “45th Anniversary Cover Project” in 2019, trying to unite artists through an annual project to link artistic creation in the form of media production. Asking certain questions about the Chinese contemporary art scene, and forming a integral art publishing and dissemination sequence.

At the beginning of the project planning last year, I defined the " Art Monthly Cover Project" as a composite and systematic media experiment: set a proposition every year, with 12 issues as a project cycle, and each issue of the magazine invites 1 artist to participate this Cover Project. The basic rules of this annual project are: the artist must create new works based on the proposition of the year; besides the cover, the magazine also publishes creation script and interviews with the artist in each issue. These contents constitute the fundamentals of the cover project of "Art Monthly" and also become the prerequisite for the further deepening and expansion of magazine media production.

In the year 2019，Art Monthly 45th Anniversary Cover Project invited 12 artists includingWu Junyong, He Gong, Chen Dandizi, Ke Ming, Gong Xinru, Zhang Quan, Xie Xiaoze, Yao Peng, Li Yongzheng, Qin Jin, Huang Xiaopeng, Cang Xin. Twelve artists created cover works with the theme of "Media". They followed the rules of the game set by the magazine, danced with "fetters", and each one completed a work which is full of imagination and artistic sensitivity within the limits.

After a year of preparation, the exhibition "45th Anniversary Cover Project of Art Monthly "to be held at the Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts at the end of 2020.This exhibition will link the richness of the media expression and thinking paths of 12 artists to the exhibition hall and demonstrate the visual logic of this project. The content of the cover project and exhibition will be re-edited, sorted out and published in the form of a book. At that time, the project that was jointly constructed by the production of paper and periodicals, the art exhibition in the physical space, and the publication of thematic literature was truly achieved.

There is a "time lag" between the progress of the “Art Monthly Cover Project” and the Art Monthly magazine’s content production process. We must finish the 2019 magazine before we can promote the exhibition and book publication of the cover project in 2020. This lag has caused overlap between the cover project of the previous year and the new year, making the project a synchronicity between the new and the old. We hope to continue to maintain this "overlapping" working state, and through actions starting from the cover again and again, to shape a new relationship between artistic creation and media production, and to accumulate and shape a new value in a long period of time, then accept the test of time and history.

2020年11月24日下午三点，“《画刊》45周年封面计划”展览在南京艺术学院美术馆拉开序幕。本次展览由艺术媒体人、《画刊》杂志主编孟尧任策展人，南京艺术学院美术馆学术部主任林书传任学术主持。《画刊》杂志创建于1974年，是一本长期致力于介绍艺术新思想、传播艺术新观念、推动艺术行业生态发展的专业艺术杂志。为了纪念杂志创刊45周年，《画刊》在2019年推出了年度艺术项目“《画刊》45周年封面计划”，力图以每年一次项目的方式携手艺术家，以媒体生产的形式联动艺术创作，对中国当代艺术现场提出某种问题，并形成整体性的艺术出版与传播序列。参加本次展览的12位艺术家，分别是吴俊勇、何工、陈丹笛子、柯明、龚新如、张权、谢晓泽、姚朋、李勇政、秦晋、黄小鹏和苍鑫。本次展览是“《画刊》45周年封面计划”项目的延续与深化，通过将12位艺术家媒介表达与思考路径的丰富性链接到展厅，更清楚地显现这个项目的视觉逻辑。除了12件（组）“封面”作品之外，本次展览还特别设置了文献区，通过纸本杂志、黑白菲林片和彩色作品图片，综合、立体地呈现“《画刊》45周年封面计划”这一年度艺术项目概念与主题的生成路径。而在不久之后，本次“封面计划”纸刊与展览的内容，也会被重新编辑与梳理，以图书的形态出版。那时，由纸刊内容生产、物理空间的艺术展览、主题文献出版共同建构的项目才真正达成。作为《画刊》杂志每年一度的艺术项目，“《画刊》封面计划”将持续地做下去，发挥激发艺术家的创造潜能和发现、推荐优秀艺术家的核心效能。
